The U.S. Space Command is offering substantial relocation incentives to entice its civilian workforce to move from Colorado to Alabama, according to General Stephen N. Whiting, the command's leader. This bold move comes as a response to President Donald Trump's directive to relocate the command headquarters to Huntsville, reversing the previous decision made by President Joe Biden. During a warfare symposium in Aurora, Colorado, Whiting emphasized the importance of retaining the expertise of the Space Command's civilian workforce. He stated that the government will bear the cost of the move and provide a retention bonus paid out over several years. The goal is to significantly increase the percentage of employees willing to relocate, with plans to move approximately 1,400 jobs to Alabama and establish temporary facilities at the Redstone Arsenal in the coming years. Whiting assured that the Space Command will also hire new employees directly in Huntsville, avoiding the need for them to relocate from Colorado Springs. This strategic relocation aims to strengthen the Space Command's presence in Alabama and ensure the expertise of its workforce remains within the state.
